On May 13th, Dr. Mate will give a keynote address titled The Biology of Loss: What Happens When Attachments Are Impaired and How To Foster Resilience.
On May 18th and 19th Dr. Mate will lead a workshop called Trauma & Healing: An Exploration of Mental Illness, Addiction and Disease Synopsis: Trauma is not what happens to us, but what happens inside us. Based on Gabor Maté’s bestselling books, this two-day presentation will explore the traumatic basis of addiction, childhood developmental problems, mental illness and physical disease. It will illuminate all of these conditions not as separate diagnostic entities, but as biopsychosocial phenomena, manifestations of the science-demonstrated unity of mind and body, of physiology and psychology, of the individual and the social environment. Treatment approaches must flow from such a holistic understanding.
