Beyond Trauma: Approaching Ourselves with Compassion
Jun. 14 @ 8:00 pm - Jun. 18 @ 8:00 pm
Dr. Maté will be presenting at the Zen Rocks Mani, Greece on June 14-18, 2023.
Compassionate Inquiry is a psychotherapeutic method developed by Dr. Gabor Maté that reveals what lies beneath the appearance we present to the world.
Using Compassionate Inquiry, the therapist unveils the level of consciousness, mental climate, hidden assumptions, implicit memories and body states that form the real message that words both express and conceal.
Through Compassionate Inquiry, the client can recognize the unconscious dynamics that run their lives and how to liberate themselves from them.
Dr. Maté will model the process of Compassionate Inquiry with course participants and instruct therapists in the practice of this powerful technique to help clients access deep healing and transformation. This will be both an experiential, participatory workshop where participants will be guided through their own personal process, as well as a training to teach the method of Compassionate Inquiry to health professionals, therapists and social workers.
Moving Beyond Trauma: Approaching ourselves with Self-Compassion
We can look at our distress or illness or affliction in two ways: as misfortunes of fate that be fall us for no reason, or as manifestations of something in our life that needs to be understood and responded to with insight and compassion.
The first approach may lead to resignation, passivity or desperate resistance.
The second opens the pathway to healing.
The word crisis comes from the Greek Krisis, which means turning point in a disease, a watershed moment which can lead to either healing or death. In many spiritual traditions, a crisis is seen as an opportunity to experience more of reality and of ourselves, to live more truthfully, to wake up and see the world with fresh eyes. What is the wisdom that shines through the cracks of this crisis?
At this retreat, we will create a safe space together where we can meet beyond right and wrong, challenge old beliefs and step into new ways of being.
